About KOT

Kehillat Ohr Tzion is a Modern Orthodox synagogue that offers a warm and welcoming community in which members can grow both intellectually and spiritually as Jews. Our shul encourages participation of both men and women in all of our religious and community activities as guided by our rich and nourishing Halakhic tradition. We provide engaging opportunities for both children and adults to learn and participate in our shul family. Kehillat Ohr Tzion is a multigenerational synagogue and embraces members from varying Jewish backgrounds. Our congregation values diversity and inclusiveness.

Rabbi Shlomo grew up in the Jewish Renewal movement as it formed around his father, Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. After playing college football, he spent nine years studying in Israeli yeshivas, trained in acupuncture and reflexology, and coached the Israeli National Football Team. He previously served as Associate Rabbi in Vancouver, BC, and as a Campus Rabbi in Champaign, Illinois. In Buffalo, in addition to his work at KOT, he serves as a Jewish Educator for the Buffalo Jewish Federation. and Hillel Buffalo. You can often find him in the JCC gym .

There is no KOT, without Jeff Schapiro. Outside of being one of the original founders of the shul, Jeff has played multiple roles as the board of KOT, including being the President, Vice President, etc.
